Third State Lawmaker in a Month Flips to GOP

People who once have identified as liberals are now switching parties and supporting the Republicans as a result of the Democrats’ extreme leftward shift.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, posted a graphic last year outlining the situation and the reasons he was now casting his first Republican ballot.

He doesn’t believe he has changed; rather, he believes, like many Democrats, that the party has abandoned him.

You can see it in people like Bill Maher, who, while being a Democrat, understands how far left the woke craziness has pushed them and frequently calls them out on it these days.

However, we’re also observing it as more lawmakers switch from the Democratic to the Republican party.

As we previously reported, North Carolina Representative Tricia Cotham recently changed parties, giving the House Republicans a veto-proof majority against Democrat Governor Roy Cooper. Cotham outlined her reasons for switching.

“The modern-day Democratic party has become unrecognizable to me, and to so many others around this state and this country. The party wants to villainize anyone who has free thought, free judgment, has solutions, who wants to get to work to better our state. Not just sit in a meeting and have a workshop after a workshop, but really work with individuals to get things done. Because that’s what real public servants do. If you don’t do exactly what Democrats want you to do, they will try to bully you, they will try to cast you aside.”

Francis Thompson, a longstanding Democrat representative who spent 50 years serving Northeast Louisiana, was another example. Imagine how angry you must feel if you decide to alter your affiliation after 50 years. On Friday, March 17, the 81-year-old lawmaker changed his party affiliation to Republican, giving the GOP a supermajority in the House. In the state Senate, they already controlled a supermajority.

The push the past several years by Democratic leadership on both the national and state level to support certain issues does not align with those values and principles that are part of my Christian life,” Thompson stated.

The second lawmaker to abandon the Democrats in Louisiana is the third to do so in the last month. In addition to Thompson, Democratic Representative Jeremy LaCombe, who was chosen for District 18 in 2019, which includes portions of the parishes of Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge, said on Monday that he is converting to the Republican Party.

LaCombe has not yet explained why he is switching.

However, his change of party now leaves Democrats with just 32 seats in the 105-member House. Right now, there are two independents and 71 Republicans. In order to be approved by the House, veto overrides, tax initiatives, and some other significant decisions need 70 votes.

The changes occur as President Biden faces a near-record low approval rating among key groups, including Democrats (81% vs. 78% low), Democratic men in particular (79% vs. 78% low), voters over 45 (41% vs. 39% low), suburban voters (41% vs. 30% low), and rural voters (31% vs. 30% low).

Additionally, only 41% of suburban women approve of Biden, which is a poor rating.
