Smash And Grab Thieves Target Eyeglass Store Making Off With Thousands

According to authorities, a trio of smash-and-grab thieves attacked a Virginia eyewear business outside of Washington, D.C., and stole more than $20,000 in items.

“Detectives are following up on leads and are aware of similar incidents throughout the National Capital Region,” stated Capt. Frederick Chambers, Commander of the Fairfax County Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, in a news statement on Thursday.

Four Black guys between the ages of 17 and 23 were caught on camera stealing from a MyEyeDr while wearing gloves, masks, and hoods or caps, according to police. Alexandria has a shop.

As the males in the video destroy a glass case, someone is heard assuring them, “The cops are on their way man,”

In the footage, many display cases are destroyed, with the guys digging through the glass to steal the products. In the footage, store staff can also be seen stepping back while the men grab the merchandise.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on April 19 about 6 p.m. The four males in the video are being sought by police, as well as their getaway driver, who was waiting for them in an older-model black Toyota Camry with tinted windows and black hubcaps.

According to cops, they made off with more than $20,000 in items.

“Detectives are continuing to work with our regional law enforcement partners to identify the suspects involved in this incident and are closely examining others that fit this troubling pattern,” Chambers said in the press release. “We are asking for information from our community and reminding them that they can remain anonymous through our Crime Solvers tip line.”

There are at least three more eyeglass shops in the Washington, D.C. area. Two establishments in northern Virginia were among those targeted by smash and grab burglars earlier this year.

In recent months, smash and grab crimes have swept the country, most notably in California over the holiday season. Looters have targeted high-end retail businesses such as Nordstrom, marijuana dispensaries, and jewelry stores, stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of products.
