President Joe Biden will take executive action on Friday in an effort to maintain access to abortion following the overturning of Roe v. Wade two weeks ago, according to three people familiar with the situation.
Biden will speak Friday morning on safeguarding access to reproductive health care services, sources informed the news service, despite criticism from some Democrats that he isn’t moving swiftly enough. However, the moves he’s anticipated to take would be modest in nature.
According to the officials, Biden will formally issue directives to the Justice and Health and Human Services departments to combat attempts to restrict women’s access to federally authorized abortion drugs or their ability to travel to other states for an abortion.
In order to better safeguard women who seek or have abortions, Biden will also direct agencies to notify medical professionals and insurance on how and when they must disclose patient information with law enforcement.
On June 24, the US Supreme Court struck down the significant 1973 case with a 6-3 decision.
According to Biden, without congressional action, his ability to act is constrained.
