FBI Raids Radical Socialist Org Accused Of Being A Russian Front

In St. Petersburg, Florida, a 50-year-old socialist group known as the Uhuru Movement was searched by federal officials on Friday on suspicion of meddling in American elections.

According to WFLA, FBI Special Agent David Walker stated, “The facts and circumstances surrounding this indictment are some of the most [egregious] and blatant violations we’ve seen by the Russian government in order to destabilize and undermine trust in American democracy.”

In a news conference, U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg said that Aleksandr Ionov, a Russian national and the head of the Anti-Globalization Movement of Russia, had collaborated with the Russian Federal Security Service to disseminate pro-Russian propaganda across the country.

According to a statement made by Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, Ionov reportedly coordinated a blatant influence operation that turned US political organizations and persons into tools of the Russian government.

“The Department of Justice will not allow Russia to unlawfully sow division and spread misinformation inside the United States.”

The indictment from the Justice Department mentions a political organization located in St. Petersburg, Florida, that disseminated its ideas using a variety of media, including websites it ran, social media, and a radio station.

According to WFLA, Ionov may get a sentence of up to five years in jail if found guilty.
